Neuraspace Strengthens Europe's Space Situational Awareness (SSA) with EMISSARY Project Participation
- Neuraspace Joins €160 Million European Defence Initiative “EMISSARY” - Single largest investment and major initiative in space situational awareness in Europe
- Neuraspace to act as the national coordinator for Portugal
Neuraspace is proud to be part of the EMISSARY (European Military Integrated Space Situational Awareness and Recognition Capability) consortium, which has been awarded with a €160-million contract by The European Defence Fund (EDF) in the "Initial operational capacity for Space Situational Awareness C2 and sensors" call. This initiative aligns perfectly with Neuraspace's commitment to a safe, secure and sustainable space.
Coordinated by Leonardo, EMISSARY unites 47 partners across 13 European countries involving government agencies, companies such as ArianeGroup, Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space, OHB, Telespazio and Safran Data Systems, scientific communities and research and technology organisations (RTOs).
The project aims to significantly enhance Space Domain Awareness (SDA) by developing a next-generation sensor network and a military-grade Space Situational Awareness Command and Control (C2) system.
Joining the EMISSARY consortium and initiative is a significant milestone for Neuraspace underscoring our contribution to the field of space safety, security and sustainability. SSA is vital for the continued use of space.
Chiara Manfletti, CEO of Neuraspace
Neuraspace will use its core competencies in AI/ML (artificial intelligence and machine learning) algorithms for data analysis, data warehousing, and automated data processing and contribute in these key areas as well as contributing data from its own optical telescopes for validation and verification.
EMISSARY represents a significant milestone in Europe's journey towards self-reliance in space. Neuraspace is eager to play a major role in this crucial project, which is shaping a safer and more secure space environment for Europe
With Neuraspace being in the consortium and acting as a national coordinator, Portugal can boost its national investments in SSA and its space surveillance and tracking (SST) capabilities. According to Neuraspace, it also allows Portugal to establish the country as a key European and NATO player in space safety and security, an increasingly contended area.
“Neuraspace's participation in EMISSARY also represents an important achievement for the Portuguese space industry,” Manfletti said. “The project promises to solidify Portugal's position as a key player in European space security and contribute to a more secure and sustainable space environment.”
About EMISSARY - EMISSARY will develop a network of advanced sensors, both ground and space based, and a Command and Control to process and disseminate data, increasing space information capability in multi-domain operations. This will ensure national and European multilateral sovereignty. The aim of this project is to reach a prototyping, demonstration and qualification phase for a large set of technologies developed in previous European Defence Fund (EDF) projects such as INTEGRAL and SAURON.
